Ilana is a personal series I’ve been developing for a few years.
The series follows the magic using Ilana, her technology using friend, Gareth, and her pet Koanuki (Koala + Raccoon), Hachi, as the journey around an alternate Australia known as "Laurastia".
My biggest goal for Ilana is to turn it into a game or graphic novel series.
At the last Popcultcha Warehouse Sale, I was selected as one of the few artists to have a stand in the “Artist Alley.”
Alongside a few prints, I prepared small goodie bags filled with various ‘Ilana’ merch, as a way to start getting the characters out there.
Among the goodies were a set of stickers featuring some of the main characters, a double sided bookmark, a postcard for one of the locations in the series, and a fake Pokemon-esque trading card.

They were all a lot of fun to make, even if no one knew what the series was.
An older design for Ilana. I wanted to show her and Gareth's different abilities, Ilana with her magic, and Gareth with his tech.
I made this piece purely for fun, to post on social media. I wanted to show off a variety of characters, and chose to have them in an onsen like bath house. Like most of my art, I made this completely digitally, from sketch to the final version. I tried to play around with an idea I had for doing backgrounds where the line art was slightly offset from the fill.
An older design for Gareth. The background was meant to represent their partnership. I combined a circular circuit board like design with a classic magic summoning circle.
A “promotional” poster I designed to show off the new designs for Ilana and Gareth. For the background style, I took inspiration from TV shows such as Steven Universe and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
